PhD Student · Cycle 38

Supervised by Claudio Sbarufatti and Gabriele Cazzulani

Research

Jiahui’s research focuses on meta-lens-enhanced guided wave structural health monitoring. Following the progression “Focus broadly, Sense sensitively, Identify clearly,” the work combines regional wave-field design, damage-sensitive backscattered-wave sensing, and probabilistic inference to improve damage detection, localization, and size estimation under noisy conditions.

Wave-field energy behind a piecewise-designed meta-lens (left) and a classical design (right): the region where E/E max ≥ 0.75 covers 1015.6 mm² against 64.5 mm².

Experimental setup: a signal generator and an amplifier drive an actuator on an aluminium plate carrying the meta-lens, and a scanning laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) measures the wave field, recorded on a PC.
