Politecnico di Milano

Politecnico di Milano is the oldest and largest
Technical University of Italy and comprises the faculties of Engineering,
Architecture and Industrial Design. Politecnico di Milano offers several first,
higher degree and Ph.D. courses and is involved in numerous European student
exchange programs.
POLIMI (mech. dept.) is one of the departments of the University and
is located in a new campus, called Bovisa, where several new
experimental facilities are available: axial and multi-axial test machines to investigate the
mechanical behaviour of materials and a test bench suitable to perform static
and fatigue full scale tests on large structures. Many hardware and software
facilities mainly devoted to structural analyses are also available in POLIMI.
Apart from the teaching activity, POLIMI is devoted to
basic and applied researches and it has developed many links with private
industries, SMEs and public institutions in Italy and in the European Union.POLIMI has been involved in R&D projects,
commissioned either by private and state owned companies, public services and European
programs. These projects covered different areas, ranging from Technology and
Production Engineering to Railway Transportation, Power Transmission
systems, impact damage and crack propagation modeling.
Role and
contribution to the project:
POLIMI is the coordinator for the HECTOR R&T project, promoted and financed by the European Defence Agency (Contracting Authority).
As a Contractor (Consortium leader) POLIMI is responsible for the overall management of the project, as follows:

Legal, contractual, financial and administrative management;

Co-ordination of the technical activities of the project, including coordination of conference calls and meetings, collecting reports from Work Package Leaders, including reporting and project reviews;

Co-ordination of knowledge management: oversight of all deliverables to the Contracting Authority, minutes of the project review meetings and the minutes of the internal projects coordination meetings.

The Contractor is also responsible for communications with the Contracting Authority.
As a Work Package Leader his role is also to co-ordinate and supervise the technical progress across the participants in the given WP, as well as to produce the synthesis/summary chapter(s) for each report, together with other participants involved in corresponding work package(s).
